Song Lyric Sunday: Where’s Captain Kirk?

The theme from Jim Adams is songs featuring lyrics about Space, Planets, or Aliens.
The song must contain a reference to the prompt in the title or the lyrics.
If the song does not meet these criteria, please explain why you chose it.

Greetings, Earthlings. Today we pay homage to Star Trek. I’ve been greedy and gone for two songs this week (well, I have missed the last few Song Lyric Sundays – lazy cow!).

First up is Where’s Captain Kirk by Spizzenergi. Released in 1979, it made it to number one on the UK Indie Chart but didn’t dent the UK official charts. And (IMHO) this track should be on every list of the best punk rock singles of all time.

My second choice won’t make any lists. Star Trekking Across the Universe by The Firm is a novelty song from 1987 and is annoying in the way only novelty songs can be. But it has a cool video with puppets, stop motion animation and computer-generated imagery.

Live long and prosper!

I was beamed aboard the Starship Enterprise
What I felt what I saw was a total surprise
I looked around and wondered can this be
Or is this the start of my insanity
Oh but it’s true as we went warp factor 2
And I met all of the crew
Where’s Captain Kirk?
Where’s Captain Kirk?
Where’s Captain Kirk?
Where’s Captain Kirk?

I went to the bridge and we were tossed about
In the storm of the vortex, I was hit with a doubt
I saw in a dream in a memory of mine
Was it you was it me who was in all the time
Spock pulled me through
As we went warp factor two
And someone I saw I knew
Who’s Captain Kirk?
Who’s Captain Kirk?
Who’s Captain Kirk?
Who’s Captain Kirk?

Red alert, Scott to bridge
Red alert, Scott to bridge

Where’s Captain Kirk?
Where’s Captain Kirk?
Where’s Captain Kirk?
Where’s Captain Kirk?

When I awoke from the dangers of space
I looked and saw a familiar face
The time warp in space made a change in me
For I was the captain and the captain was me
Yes it’s so true
As we went warp factor two
The changes I had been through
As Captain Kirk
I’m Captain Kirk
As Captain Kirk
As Captain Kirk
Oh, but it’s true
As we went warp factor two
The changes I had been through
As Captain Kirk
I’m Captain Kirk
Where’s Captain Kirk?
I’m Captain Kirk
Where’s Spock?

Star Trekkin’ across the universe
On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk
Star Trekkin’ across the universe
Boldly going forward ’cause we can’t find reverse

Lt. Uhura, report
There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;
There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim
Analysis, Mr. Spock

It’s life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it; it’s life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain
There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;
There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim
Star Trekkin’ across the universe

On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk
Star Trekkin’ across the universe
Boldly going forward, still can’t find reverse
Medical update, Dr. McCoy

It’s worse than that, he’s dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead, Jim;
It’s worse than that, he’s dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead
It’s life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it; it’s life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain
There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;

There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim
Starship Captain, James T. Kirk:
Ah! We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill;
We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, men

It’s worse than that, he’s dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead, Jim;
It’s worse than that, he’s dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead
Well, it’s life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it; it’s life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain
There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;

There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, scrape ’em off, Jim
Star Trekkin’ across the universe
On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk
Star Trekkin’ across the universe

Boldly going forward, and things are getting worse!
Engine room, Mr. Scott:
Ye cannae change the laws of physics, laws of physics, laws of physics;
Ye cannae change the laws of physics, laws of physics, Jim

Ah! We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill;
We come in peace, shoot to kill; Scotty, beam me up!
It’s worse than that, he’s dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead, Jim;
It’s worse than that, he’s dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead

Well, it’s life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it; it’s life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain
There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;
There’s Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow Jim!
Ya cannot change the strength Jim of the engines

It’s worse than that, it’s physics, Jim
Bridge to engine room, warp factor 9
Och, if I give it any more she’ll blow, Cap’n!
Star Trekkin’ across the universe

On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk
Star Trekkin’ across the universe
Boldly going forward ’cause we can’t find reverse
Star Trekkin’ across the universe

On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk
Star Trekkin’ across the universe

  1. I agree Ella that Where’s Captain Kirk by Spizzenergi is a great punk rock song. Star Trekkin’ is a fun song, but something that you wouldn’t want to listen to very often.
