Time to whip out your eyeliner and don a bouffant wig: go-go boots are an optional extra.

Come on a trip with me back to 1963 and enjoy Dusty Springfield’s debut single: I Only Want to Be with You.

This is an upbeat song about finding the one you want to be with. There is a stalkerish undertone in the lyrics with the line: I want to spend each moment of the day with you. But this song is from a more innocent time with bunny-boilers being a thing of the future.

Numerous covers abound, the Bay City Rollers, The Tourists (with Annie Lennox) and one by the former topless model Sam Fox (she keeps her boobs tightly under wraps in the vid).

But now is the time to watch the Queen of Blue-Eyed Soul rock your mum’s prom dress in a display of pure class with oodles of pizazz.

I don’t know what it is that makes me love you so
I only know I never want to let you go
‘Cause you started something, oh, can’t you see?
That ever since we met you’ve had a hold on me
It happens to be true, I only want to be with you

It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do
I want to spend each moment of the day with you
Well, look what has happened with just one kiss
I never knew that I could be in love like this
It’s crazy but it’s true, I only want to be with you

You stopped and smiled at me
Asked if I’d care to dance
I fell into your open arms
And I didn’t stand a chance

Now, listen, honey, I just want to be beside you everywhere
As long as we’re together, honey, I don’t care
‘Cause you started something, oh, can’t you see?
That ever since we met you’ve had a hold on me
No matter what you do, I only want to be with you

Oh, you stopped and you smiled at me
Asked if I’d care to dance
I fell into your open arms
I didn’t stand a chance

Now hear me, darling, I just want to be beside you everywhere
As long as we’re together, honey, I don’t care
‘Cause you started something, oh, can’t you see?
That ever since we met you’ve had a hold on me
No matter what you do, I only want to be with you

I said, no matter, no matter what you do
I only want to be with you
