Song Lyric Sunday: Am I Blue?

The prompt for Song Lyric Sunday from Jim Adams is
Old, New, Borrowed, Blue.
The song must contain one of these words in either the title or the lyrics.
If the song does not meet these criteria, please explain why you chose it.

I have been a bridesmaid, a witness, and a bride. And of the three weddings in which I had an official role, only the first and last in this list are still going strong. This is all because of the colour blue.

As a bride, I wore blue knickers. TMI!

As the witness, I wore purple. Well, someone had to.

As a bridesmaid, I wore the ghastly blue dress as displayed in the dodgy photo. This doesn’t do justice to the actual colour – the ruddy thing was sky blue. And to add insult to injury, my mother did my hair in rags the night before so I would have fetching ringlets poking out from beneath my bonnet. This explains why I look so tired and grumpy: because I was. You try getting a good night’s sleep with your head covered in scalp wrenching knobbly lumps.

But be warned, the colour blue is the charm for a long and happy marriage if I’m involved as more than a guest.

And on that note here are The D Cups (formerly known as The Dixie Cups) belting out Chapel of Love where they tell us “the sky is blue” (just like my gown!) in this lovely song about getting hitched.

Going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married.
Going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married.
Gee, I really love you and we’re gonna get married.
Going to the chapel of love.

Spring is here,
The sky is blue.
Birds all sing as if they knew.
Today’s the day, we’ll say, “I do”
And we’ll never be lonely anymore.

Because we’re going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married.
Going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married.
Gee, I really love you and we’re gonna get married.
Going to the chapel of love.

Bells will ring,
The sun will shine.
I’ll be his and he’ll be mine.
We’ll love until the end of time
And we’ll never be lonely anymore.

Because we’re going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married.
Going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married.

Gee, I really love you and we’re goinna get married.
Going to the chapel of love.
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Going to the chapel of love.
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Going to the chapel of love.

  1. In response to the recent wave of civil rights protests against police brutality and white supremacy erupting throughout North America, and the word Dixie being part of the Confederate past, last year the Dixie Cups following in the steps of Lady Antebellum, who rebranded as Lady A, are now named the D Cups, which sounds a lot like a bra.

  2. You did great with the prompt! The photos of the sky blue dress reminded me of a bridesmaid dress I wore in my cousins wedding. It was the same color. I hung on to the dang thing and my two daughters wore it when they’d play dress-up. I think I got my money’s worth out of it. I think it’s still in a box somewhere………………..! Thanks for the smiles today. PS I love that song too, it’s a good one for earworms!

  3. I am glad you shared that bridesmaid picture. Several of us have been through the same. I’m glad we no longer need to sleep in curlers (or rags) to get the same look these days. Great song choice too!!
