Song Lyric Sunday – Grapes of Wrath

This week’s prompt for Song Lyric Sunday from Jim Adams is Banana/Cherry/Strawberry/Olive.

And from this fruit salad, I pick The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana) by The Banana Splits.

This was essential viewing during my childhood – I loved the programme for its wacky humour, cartoons, and the banana buggies. Only the British kid’s TV show TISWAS could top it for boisterous anarchy with the Phantom Flan Flinger, The Cage and the Dying Fly.

But back to the Banana Splits, for those who don’t mind having their childhood memories crushed beyond all recognition, watch The Banana Splits Movie, a comedy-horror film from 2019, which was described in a review by Kat Hughes as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for grown-ups. Warning: this movie has a higher body count than your average slasher flick.

Are you ready for a mess of fun?

Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la

One banana, two banana, three banana, four
Four bananas make a bunch, and so do many more
Over hill and highway, the banana buggies go
Come along to bring you the banana splits show

Making up a mess of fun
Making up a mess of fun
Lots of fun for everyone

Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la

Four banana, three banana, two banana, one
All bananas playing in the bright warm sun
Flipping like a pancake, popping like a cork
Fleagle, Bingo Drooper and Snork

Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la
Tra la la, la la, la
